Journal #8
Virtual Schooling
Summary: This article is obviously on virtual school, which is also known as an online class. There are three very important people that are in the online class; the teacher, the administrator, and the facilitator. Each of these jobs is very important since they are the backbone of the class. Virtual Schooling is very popular in grades K-12. This is interesting because I had never heard about online schooling in these young grades until this article, I had only heard of online classes in college. In order to be an online teacher you must go through proper training to learn how to use the program. Virtual Schooling is becoming very popular and most teachers these days are being asked to be facilitators for online classes.
Question #1: Do people really want to take online classes? Yes! As a matter of fact I take at least one online class a semester. It’s extremely convenient and I am able to do my work when I have time. I really like that I don’t have a certain time that I have to be at the class, it fits into my schedule very nicely. One thing that you have to be very careful with though is not being caught up on your work. Many think online class and they think piece of cake, this is going to be easy. In fact it’s the exact opposite. You have to be very responsible when taking an online class because you have to remember to go online everyday and check what’s due. You don’t have a teacher holding your hand through everything.
Question #2: Would you want to teach online classes for K-12? Honestly, I don’t know how you would. I think that K-12 are the most important grades and they need to be taught in person. Especially in high school, if we had all of our students taking online classes in high school, they would never graduate. They would sleep in all day and party all night. As for the younger elementary school kids, I don’t see how they would even take the classes, it just seems too imaginary to me. But for college, it’s amazing!
