Journal #9
School 2.0 “The Science Leadership Academy”
Summary: This article is all about schools, how they teach, and how we can change the ways we teach so students are engaged in what’s going on. They do this by having a lot of things online. Whether it’s a project with instant messaging or uploading things to their blog, these are the transitions they’re willing to take to teach their students. Their classrooms consist of normal classrooms however all students have a laptop and some other form of technology with them. Basically this school is all about technology, keeping up with the latest forms, and using these types of technology to teach classrooms. It seems like it could work.
Question #1: Should we change our classrooms so the students can be more engaged, or should we stick to the book? I think it’s important for students to learn but I don’t think we need to change our whole curriculum just so they will be more interested. I do agree however to have different forms of technology in the classroom and to use them on a regular basis. Just because a student doesn’t understand something or because they’re bored doesn’t mean we need to change everything around. It does seem very neat but also a lot more work.
Question #2: What are you supposed to do with the kids who aren’t technology savvy? I’m guessing that all of the students who go here are very up to date with technology. I think that if you did have student who wasn’t for some reason though, you would not only have to teach them about what you learn that year but you might also have to teach them how to use different forms of technology. It’s very important for them to know about technology in their future so I think the more you use it in the classroom the more students will enjoy working with it and the more they will understand how to use it.
